Babson Men’s Basketball Falls to Colby, 67-47, in Colby Invitational Tournament Finals

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Babson College men's basketball team fell to host Colby College in the Championship Game of the 2008 Colby Invitational Tournament Saturday afternoon by a score of 67-47. Stingy defense and tournament most valuable player Adam Choice (Newport, R.I.) helped Colby improve to 6-3, while the Beavers are now 5-3.

For Colby, Choice finished with 28 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the field and a 10-for-13 effort from the foul line. He had 16 of Colby's 29 points in the opening half. Choice, a junior, went over 800 career points in the game and now has 821 points and 405 rebounds.

Artie Cutrone (Garden City, N.Y.), an all-tournament team selection, added 15 points, five assists, and four steals for the Mules. Kyle Donovan (Portland, Maine) and Michael Russell (Wellesley, Mass.) both had six points. Christian Van Loenen (Falmouth, Maine) added three points and three rebounds against the Beavers and joined Cutrone on the all-tourney team.

For Babson, senior captain Zach Etten (Hollis, N.H.) earned all-tournament honors after leading the Beavers with 15 points on 7-for-10 shooting.  First-year Marcus Edwards (East Hampton, N.Y.) added seven points and six rebounds and was also selected to the all-tournament team. Sophomore Shelton Ladson (New York, N.Y.) and first-year Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) each had six points for the Beavers and sophomore Matt Zoia (Nashua, N.H.) added five.

Choice scored the final four points of the first half to give the Mules a 29-22 lead. Colby then went on a 15-5 run to start the second half in taking a 44-29 lead with 14:35 to play. Colby's defense never allowed the Beavers to get any closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

The Beavers return to action on Thursday, December 11 at 6:00 pm when they face Lasell College. Colby continues their season January 6 with a game against visiting Maine Maritime Academy at 7:00 pm.
