Program History

Begun in 1969, the Babson baseball program has established itself as one of the finest in New England. Over the past 21 years, the Beavers have finished below .500 only once while winning five conference titles, making 14 postseason appearances, and winning two ECAC Championships.

Babson's rise to regional prominence began in 1991, when the team earned the first of four consecutive ECAC Tournament berths. Over the next seven years, the Beavers went a combined 147-104 while returning to the ECAC tourney six times. The squad enjoyed a remarkable 26-11 campaign in 1996, and then won its first-ever ECAC Championship in 1998.

The Beavers earned two more ECAC Tournament berths in 2000 and 2001, setting the stage for one of the most successful campaigns in team history in 2002. In addition to setting a new school record for single-season victories with a 27-19 mark, Babson advanced to the finals of the NEWMAC Tournament before finishing the year with the program's second-ever ECAC Championship.

Following a 19-win season and a return to ECAC Tournament in 2003, Babson enjoyed one of the finest campaigns in program history in 2004. Finishing with a 24-19 record, the Beavers won their fourth conference title and earned their first-ever bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Babson then followed with its 13th postseason appearance in the past 15 years in 2005, going 22-19 and advancing to the finals of the ECAC Tourney.

Babson's success continued in 2008, when the Beavers went 11-1 in the conference to claim their first-ever NEWMAC Regular Season title. The team's 26 victories was the most since 2002 and tied for second most in program history. The team then won another NEWMAC Championship and earned its second NCAA Tournament berth in 2009 while claiming it's first-ever win at regionals - a 10-6 victory over top-seeded Eastern Connecticut State.

In addition to great team success, the Babson baseball program has also produced some outstanding individual players. Since the inception of the program, three Beavers have been drafted by Major League Baseball teams, including pitchers Rick Renwick '79 and Jason Kosow '04, who were each selected by the Chicago Cubs, and most recently catcher Ted Dziuba '06, who was taken by the New York Mets in 2006.
