THE SERIES

Babson and Coast Guard will meet for the 78th time on Tuesday afternoon in a series that dates back to 1978. The Beavers are 55-22 all-time against the Bears and won all three games between the teams last season.

LAST MEETING
Junior Teddy Carey allowed just one hit in 7.2 innings and senior Jake Weiss went 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs batted in to help the fourth-seeded Beavers defeat fifth-seeded Coast Guard, 9-2, in a NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinal on April 28, 2016, in Babson Park. Senior Jack Halpin added three hits and an RBI for Babson, which scored four runs in the sixth and four more in the eighth to pull away.

LAST COAST GUARD WIN
Senior Kyle Jackson drove in two runs and classmate Colton Cannon tossed a complete-game six hitter as fifth-seeded Coast Guard downed fourth-seeded Babson, 6-1, in a NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinal on April 24, 2015, in Babson Park. Rob Caggiano '15 went 2-for-3 for the Beavers, who scored their lone run on senior Owen Shea's single in the bottom of the second inning.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
Coast Guard (6-10, 0-2 NEWMAC) is looking to snap a five-game losing streak after dropping both games of a doubleheader to MIT on Saturday. Sophomore Will Stephens went 3-for-4 with two doubles in the opener, but the Bears were held to just two hits in a 16-2 game-two loss. Junior Zach Serna is batting .356 with five extra-base hits and eight RBI, Jackson checks in at .288 with four extra-base hits and six runs batted in., and senior Timbo Duncan has homered four times and driven in 13 runs despite hitting just .212. Cannon is 1-0 with a 1.27 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 21.1 innings for a Coast Guard staff that is allowing 8.50 runs per game.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Babson (6-5) has been idle since defeating St. Thomas, 3-2, last Wednesday in Florida. Junior John Floegel fanned six in 7.0 innings and sophomore Brian McHale went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for the Beavers. McHale is batting .433 with four doubles and eight RBI, junior Adam Ayala is hitting .393 with three extra-base hits and six stolen bases, and Halpin enters the day with a .292 average to go along with one homer and seven runs batted in. Carey and sophomore Michael Genaro have combined to go 3-1 with a 1.45 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 31.0 innings over their first five starts.

WINNING STUFF
The Beavers outscored Coast Guard 19-5 in three games last season, and their pitching staff struck out 29 batter in 27.0 innings while holding the Bears to just a .113 average.

DRIVING THE OFFENSE
Ayala, Halpin and Weiss batted .533 (16-of-30) with five extra-base hits, eight runs scored in nine runs batted in last season against Coast Guard.

POLL POSITION
Babson, which is one of just two teams that has not yet opened league play, was picked to finish third when the NEWMAC released its preseason coaches' poll back in February. The Green and White has finished fourth in three straight years going back to 2014.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Beavers are 6-1 this season when limiting its opponents to five runs or less.
