AUBURNDALE, Fla.—The Babson College baseball team allowed seven first-inning runs and suffered an 11-1 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University in the opening game of its spring break trip to Florida on Friday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Field.

With the loss, Babson slips to 2-3 on the year, while Illinois Wesleyan improves to 7-3.

Sophomore Nicholas Browne (Mount Laurel, N.J.) went 2-for-3, classmate Connor Gill (Sterling, Mass.) doubled and drove in a run, and first-year Aidan Scott (South Glastonbury, Conn.) went 1-for-2 with a run scored for the Beavers.

Sophomore John Bosco (Carroll Stream, Ill.) went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, while junior Tim Smyk (Morris, Ill.) and first-year Nick Figus (Frankfurt, Ill.) both drove in a pair of runs for the Titans. Senior pitcher Sean Coonan (Bloomington, Ill.) allowed just one run over six innings while striking out three to earn his first win of the year.

Illinois Wesleyan drew a lead off walk and followed with four consecutive singles to take a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Bosco followed with an RBI single, Smyk smacked a two-run double and Figus capped the rally with a sacrifice fly to give the Titans a commanding 7-0 advantage.

Babson left a pair of runners on base in the second inning before finally getting on the board in the fifth. Scott reached with a one-out single to right and then came around to score on Gill's double to left two batters later.

Sophomore Edward Lehr (Byram Township, N.J.) lasted just 1.1 innings on the mound for the Beavers after giving up eight runs on eight hits.

Babson returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Bowdoin beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla.
