BOSTON—Following its second fourth-place finish in the last three years at the 2013 conference meet, the Babson College men's cross country team was picked to come in fourth when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Thursday morning.
MIT, which is coming off its 16th straight title last fall, collected all eight first-place votes to finish atop the poll. Coast Guard Academy came in second while WPI finished just ahead of the Green and White in third place.
Despite the loss of four seniors, the Beavers return seven harriers led by senior Mark Gulesian (Miami, Fla.) and junior Ian MacLean (South Hamilton, Mass.). Gulesian won three races last fall while MacLean missed All-NEWMAC honors by less than a second last year, finishing 15th at the conference meet.
Babson will get its season underway on Friday at 5:30 p.m. when it travels to the New England College Mayflower Invitational in Henniker, N.H.
