Gulesian's Victory Highlights Cross Country's Strong Showing At Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass.—Junior Mark Gulesian (Miami, Fla.) continued his stellar junior season with a third victory in four races to help the Babson College men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State on Saturday. Not to be outdone, classmate Marina Capalbo (Gainesville, Va.) posted the second-fastest time in program history to finish third as the women's team came in 13th out of 38 teams.

Gulesian finished the 8K course at Stanley park in a time of 25:49.47 to win by just over six seconds, topping a field of 347 runners. Senior Brian deLeon (Princeton, N.J.) finished 23rd in a time of 26:58.02 and was followed by classmate AJ Skains (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who posted a time of 26:59.65 to finish 24th. Sophomore Ian MacLean (Hamilton, Mass.) came in 30th in a time of 27:13.70, while senior Nate Kolman (Long Grove, Ill.) finished 37th in a time of 27:23.03. Skains, MacLean and Kolman all ran their best times of the season to date on Saturday.

First-year Will Nemeth (Coplay, Pa.) posted the best time of his career, finishing the course in 28:34.64, while sophomore Chris deLeon (Princeton, N.J.) had his best time of the season, completing the race in 28:46.35.

Capalbo cruised through the 5K race in a time of 18:40.47 to post her third top-three finish of the year. After posting a new school record in the 5K back on September 7, Capalbo now owns five of the six fastest times at that distance in school history. Sophomore Kelli Halligan (Melrose, Mass.) equaled her best time of the season thus far, finishing 59th in 20:42.46. Senior Michelle Chin (East Williston, N.Y.) posted a time of 21:33.85, while junior Rebekah Miller (Johnson, N.Y.) ran a season-low 21:43.57. First-year Rebeca Jacobs (Toronto, Ontario) set a new personal best of 23:09.23, trimming 35 seconds off her previous best time.

Babson returns to action on Friday when it will take part in the Emmanuel College Saints Invitational at Franklin Park in Boston. The women's race will take place at 4 p.m., followed by the men's race at 4:45 p.m.
