Track and Field Teams Garner USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2009 postseason honors this week, and both the Babson College men's and women's track and field squads earned Team All-Academic status. In order to achieve this honor, teams must have posted a cumulative GPA of 3.100 or above.

This marks the third consecutive Team All-Academic nod for the Babson men, while the women garnered All-Academic recognition for the second straight season. Both squads posted cumulative grade-point averages of 3.200 through the spring semester.

The academic honor caps off yet another all-around successful season for Babson, which boasted its first-ever women's conference champion when first-year Alexa Untermann won the NEWMAC title in the high jump and its fourth male All-Conference selection when first-year Justin Bowman placed second in the 800 meter run at the NEWMAC meet. Babson also sent eight individuals and one relay team to the NCAA Division III New England Championships, with Bowman earning All-New England honors with an 9th-place finish in the 800. Leading the Beavers in the classroom was sophomore three-sport athlete Mikita Kourtchikov, who earned NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors for surpassing a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
