Omar Abdi was hired as the Athletics Business and Operations Specialist in July 2016.
Abdi comes to Babson after spending the last year as an athletic events and operations coordinator at nearby Harvard University. He was the primary event operations coordinator for 10 sports and was responsible for staffing, supervising work study students and working alongside communications, marketing and facilities for all home contests. In addition to his game-day duties with the Crimson, Abdi was involved as the on-site manager for Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) games at Harvard.
Prior to his time at Harvard, Abdi spent two years as an assistant track & field and cross country coach at Wheelock College. A 2014 graduate of UMass-Lowell and two-year member of the cross country and track & field teams for the River Hawks, he competed for his native Somalia at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2013 and the IAAF Indoor Track & Field Championships in 2014.
Abdi, who earned his master's degree from Northeastern University in May, also has experience as an athletics program assistant with the Boston Scholar Athletes (BSA) program through AmeriCorps.
