Burr One of Four from Division III Named to New NATA Sports Medicine Council

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College Director of Athletics Performance Rick Burr was one of four Division III athletic trainers across the country named to the newly formed National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine (ICSM).

"I am honored to be selected to this newly created council," said Burr. "This committee will look at the unique needs in all divisions when developing policies for the NCAA with regards to best practices and future policy changes. Working on multiple NATA committees and as a compliance coordinator with the NCAA, I hope to bring a strong perspective in addressing these needs. Having served in the Division III arena for over 30 years, I am excited to be a part of a committee that will shape policies that directly enhance the student-athlete experience."

The College/University Athletic Trainers' Committee (CUATC) was restructured into the ICSM. The new structure was created to enhance collaboration between all collegiate sports levels, divisions and conferences. The change will position the NATA and the collegiate athletic trainer as a strong resource for the NCAA and other governing bodies who establish best practices for the health care of collegiate student-athletes.

With a central focus on making things better for both student-athletes and athletic trainers, the ICSM will work hard to ensure there is athletic trainer input involved with national collegiate health and safety issues.
